In TACA REGIONAL and our affiliate airlines we are committed with the well-being and development of the countries in which we operate. That is why we carry out several initiatives to contribute to the sustainable development of Central America.
Environment
Aware of the impact that carbon dioxide emissions have on the environment and the effect these have on global warming, SANSA REGIONAL become one of the less than five “Zero Emissions Airlines” in the world.
What does this mean? Each year, SANSA REGIONAL pay thousands of dollars to a fund established to protect rain forest areas that help to off-set carbon emissions through the generation of new Oxygen.
In SANSA, we pay to protect parts of a virgin rain forest in the Puerto Jimenez region of Costa Rica. Wich absobs more CO2 from the atmosphere, much more than the emissions produced by the airline in one year.
In so doing, we are not only doing our part for the environment, but also helping to protect various rare and endangered species, as well as supporting the many Costa Ricans who rely on the local eco-system for their livelihood.
As TACA REGIONAL Guatemala we have an agreement with ARCAS, an organization dedicated to the rescue and conservation of the wild life.
Community Service/ Philanthropy
The well-being of our communities is important for us, that’s why we contribute in a variety of benefic causes.
In Guatemala we support the “Cuenca del Mirador” project, led by the famous archaeologist Richard Hansen, who is investigating one of the most important archaelogical sites of the mayan civilization in the north of Peten. Soon we will be supporting PROPETEN by transporting food and medicines to communities affected by the winter.
In Honduras we make donations to different beneficial organizations, such as “Nutre Hogar” that feeds undernourished children, “Hogar Suyapa en el Progreso” which provides home and food to orphaned children and “Amor y Vida” foundation which offers protection and integral care to HIV infected children.
In Costa Rica, together with TACA we are one of the main sponsors of TELETON, which helps the rehabilitation and reintegration of children with disabilities.
In Panama we make donations to “Fundación de Amigos del Niño con Leucemia y Cáncer” (FANLYC), “Asilo de Ancianos de Chiriquí” and “Nutre Hogar” in Changuinola, among others. On November 2008 we transported together with the International Red Cross more than 20.000 pounds of humanitarian aid to the region of Bocas del Toro, with 25.000 victims affected by the intense rains.
